Welcome to Econet Enterprises "The company with a heart, a soul & a profit..."
About Econet Econet Enterprises is a for profit socially dedicated corporation specifically designed to help the socially and economically disadvantaged. Econet's mission is to help individuals reintegrate themselves back into regular employment by offering an immediate job along with the extensive supports necessary to maintain the job.
The Econet model is based on the formation of an"economically centered social network"simultaneously addressing the economic along and social needs of the underprivileged directly at the work place. It is from this economic network model that the Econet name is derived.
The Econet Model Traditional programs for the disadvantaged offer a variety of government or grant supported services including entitlements such as welfare and social security disability as well as supportive psychosocial programs. Econet differs significantly from other programs for the disadvantaged in several ways.
No external government or grant support are sought or required as all services are included as a cost of business.
The economic as well as the psychosocial needs are addressed at the work place, making for a well integrated socioeconomic approach to the multi-problemed individual.
Collaborative relationships with established businesses form the center of the Econet model and provide the economic force for the corporation. Econet offers a wide variety of competitive services to businesses and these collaborative relationships helps Econet to leverage profitability and effectiveness with little or no investment of capital. They also offer potential outlets for transitioning of the Econet workforce into established businesses.
Econet utilizes a socioeconomic systems based approach to organizations that helps to make the corporation run in an integrated and efficient fashion.
Background & Current State of Econet Econet was originally designed in the early 1990's specifically for the severely disadvantaged such as the homeless. Due to the complexities of mobilizing and integrating business with government programs the full Econet program could not be mobilized at that time. The model was tested on several occasions however and the basic premises of the model seemed to be substantiated. That is Econet appeared to be able to cost effectively and comprehensively address the multiple problems of the homeless in a socially networked economic model .
Econet was able to be operationalized in the past year due to two factors. First, it was decided to switch the focus of Econet to working with higher functioning individuals, making the process of implementation much simpler. Second the Internet was used to form a basis for immediate sales and income, allowing for generation of revenue with little start up costs.
There are currently 10 part-time participants and 3 associated businesses. Econet provides a variety of services including Internet sales and marketing, web site design, and shipping services among others. Econet is in the process of extending the needed economic base to expand the program.
